Alternatives for Families: A Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT) is an evidence-based treatment designed to improve relationships between children and caregivers in families experiencing frequent conflict, physical force/discipline, or child physical abuse. Professionals learn to engage families, reduce coercive interactions, and promote emotional regulation, communication, problem-solving, and positive parenting strategies. This foundational course is Part 1 of the AF-CBT Learning Community, followed by Part 2: Professional Skills Training on the Pitt Professional website and Part 3: Ongoing Consultation with a certified AF-CBT trainer.
